Unfortunately, this message just confirms that Acrobat has crashed. Is this happening when combining any two PDF files, or is it specific to one or two files involved in the operation?

In that case I would re-install Acrobat. If that does not fix it, I would run the Acrobat Cleaner to remove anything releated to Acrobat from the system. You can find the Cleaner here: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html
