So I got a Windows 11 computer just for this and installed the latest version of Acrobat 2026.002.21901 | 64-bit—and what can I say? Acrobat continues to work correctly there: colors are converted, and black stays black.

So the bug is only present in the Mac version and has been occurring since the last update.

How can I install a previous version of Acrobat on my Mac?

To answer your questions:

3. “Preserve Black” doesn’t work with any PDF/X file, regardless of which app was used to create it. I tested this in InDesign and Illustrator. I tested a color created in InDesign as well as a document created in Illustrator and placed into InDesign. Even a PDF from Illustrator profiled as “ISO coated v2 300,” for example, is incorrectly converted to ISOnewspaper26v4; “Preserve Black” doesn’t work here either.

4. The original black was tested at 0/0/0/100 CMYK and with grayscale 100K; both are incorrectly converted to “Rich Black” (67/64/58/87 CMYK).

Unfortunately, exporting directly from InDesign to the target profile “PSO LWC Std” with “Preserve Numbers” doesn’t make sense, since colors created in InDesign are not converted: If two identical color values exist—one from InDesign and one from a pixel format—they would be rendered differently.

Could you please share more details about the issue?

1. Which platform are you using: A) Windows or B) macOS?

2. What exact Acrobat Pro version/build is installed?

3. Does “Preserve Black” fail with every PDF/X file, or only PDFs exported from InDesign using ISO Coated v2?

4. When converting to PSO LWC Standard, is the affected black originally 100% K only (0/0/0/100 CMYK), and does Acrobat convert it into a multi-channel CMYK build?

Suggestions:

On a copy of the PDF, open All tools > Use print production > Output preview. Select Separations, then hover over the affected object to record its CMYK values before and after conversion. You can also use Color Warnings > Rich Black or Object Inspector to confirm the object’s color space.

Retest through All tools > Use print production > Convert Colours. Select the required output-intent profile and enable:

• Preserve Black: Adobe states that this preserves black objects drawn in CMYK, RGB, or grayscale.

• Preserve CMYK Primaries: this preserves colours containing only one CMYK colourant, including K-only black.

Note: Preserve CMYK Primaries also preserves single-colourant cyan, magenta, and yellow, so confirm that this is acceptable for your production requirements. Check this article for more details: https://adobe.ly/4xhimPR

Export directly from InDesign using File > Export > Adobe PDF (Print) > Output, select the required destination profile, and test Convert to Destination (Preserve Numbers). Adobe documents that this option leaves untagged and native color values unchanged.
