Question

Filled PDF forms showing 2 different documents

I have a form that is sent to a user filled out with a few information filled for a project. Once the user receives the document after it has been edited as an attachment the preview for the PDF in Outlook displays the correct information.

The issue I am facing is that once I open the form in Adobe it displays a version of the form where it is completely different from the preview and I can replicate it on 2 computers so far.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hello,

I think I have same issue here.

I received en email with a PDF file that is a form. This form has a lot of fields and is already filled with all the information (name, date, and a lot of information provided by the sender of the email). I am supposed just to print and sign the document, without editing the file.

When I open this PDF file in my computer using Adobe Acrobat DC (professional), all the data contained in the form is incorrect. Different name, different data, different date in 2021, in summary it seems to show the form with data filled in 2021 intended for another person, not the data filled for me.

But if  I open the same PDF in other devices and applications, it seems to be correct:

-android smart phone with adobe reader: form with correct data

-outlook preview in my computer: form with correct data

-i forward the email to a colleague with adobe reader: form with correct data

In summary, someone sends me a form with data already filled but with Adobe Acrobat DC Profesional I can see document with the data filled for another person in 2021.

I have no clue what is wrong but the problem seems to be only in Adobe Acrobat (professional)

It is a similar issue, but I am noticing on both Reader and Acrobat.

First, Outlook preview is not reliable because it is not a true PDF viewer.

Next, what tool is being used to fill out the PDF form?  And what is the exact form filling workflow, step by step?

It is entirely possible that the filled data for the form in the attachment is not actually saved back to the attachment, or the form filling tool is not compliant with the PDF spec, and not actually doing what you think it is.

Can you post one of the problem forms so we can look at it?

- Yes it is not but on my mobile phone I can open it with adobe and it displays the correct fields filled out. It is only happening in Windows version of Adobe

Next, what tool is being used to fill out the PDF form? And what is the exact form filling workflow, step by step?

-Adobe Reader or Acrobat is being used to fill out these forms. The form has text boxes that the user will click on and type the information needed for the field. Once they fill out the information they save it and send the document back to the user to keep for their projects.

I can't share the document but this is a PDF file that has been used for over a decade in my company and this is the first time experiencing this issue.

Recently there has another reported issues with mobile viewer, about comments, not fields. But is't possible there is a  bad update.

It is the workflow issue that is key to nailing down exactly where things are going wrong. It is the details that are needed. By exact steps I meant.

1. Use is send the form as an email attachment.

2. User receives email on thier desktop computer.

3. User Saves attachment to a folder.

4. User opens PDF form in Acrobat.

5. User fills form and saves it.

6. User attaches fill and saved form to email reply.

like that.

Problems may exist if the form is recieved and filled on a mobile device, or not saved to the desktop before filling. But without the details we don't know what's happening.

It's a pdf with text boxes that gets filled. It has been used for years this way just that recently we have experienced this issue randomly.
