I need to redact many documents for a divorce case and must keep the last four digits of each account number. When I search for the portion to redact, the tool selects the entire number.
Example: Number to redact: 987654321
I search for 98765, but the result highlights 987654321 instead of just 98765.
The “Find Text and Redact” feature would be ideal if it selected only the exact text searched.
@helpfulgirl that's actually correct, the basic "Find Text and Redact" tool in Acrobat Pro, uses a whole-word or broader search algorithm. Instead, to redact only the beginning portion of a number while keeping the last four digits, you must use Acrobat's Redaction Tool with Regular Expressions (RegEx). This allows you to search for patterns, rather than just exact words, and apply the redaction to a specific part of that pattern. In the Redact toolbar, click on Mark for Redaction and then Find Text.... This opens the "Search and Redact" dialog box. Select the option "Patterns".
