Font looks different in latest PDF

My formatter has converted my Word doc to PDF several times, with no issues. The last time, the regular Oswald font turned into Bold. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it back to regular?

Thanks so much.

Thanks so much! My formatter is the person who's formatting my document to publish it. I'll give her your instructions. I was just puzzled as to why the Oswald font had worked perfectly in the previous ten versions of the manuscript...and suddenly became bold in this one.

@paula_8304 'my formatter?' — what do you mean by that? Is this a third-party formatter outside of Adobe Acrobat?

Oswald is a Google Font and is also a variable font as seen in the screenshot. We use variable fonts when doing web development and UX designs,  but sometimes other applications such as Word and I guess in this case, as well as Acrobat, struggles to interpret the different weights, causing them to default to the "Bold" or "Medium" weight by mistake.

I don't see any other fonts for Oswald beside this variable font, so I would 'embed the fonts in the file'. I am on a MAC (Word Preferences - Output and Sharing - Save) right this moment, so this will be different for a PC. For a PC, check under File - Options - Save, Enable "Embed Fonts" in Word. Try saving as PDF again.

If by chance that still failed, instead of 'Save to PDF' maybe try 'Print to PDF' or 'Best for Printing'
