Question

For Acrobat PDFMaker, is High Quality Print setting best for Picture containing Arial 6 font?

I need to improve print legibility for Arial 6 text pasted as picture but finding Microsoft Office Export to PDF has better legibility which I yet have to understand why.

However, aince Acroboat PDFMaker is default conversion for my work environment, I am trying to tune its setting.

What I need help on is would disabling Downsample and Compression improve legibility of text pasted as picture ? My undestanding is compression and downsample compromise legibility; but why are  they, as-is, not OFF for High Quality Setting?

Pasting text as a picture is never a good idea, as you lose the advantage of all text optimization during display/print operations.

Save as PDF in Microsoft Office programs also has options that you can tweak for best quality/size relation, they are, however, elementary.

You need to understand how images are getting handled by the software (Microsoft and Adobe) before making assumptions on what makes sense.

Downsample: optimizes size of the image against resolution. If you intend to print, then High Quality is a good choice. Pictures get only downsampled to 300ppi if the picture is at a higher resolution. That is in normal use the correct resolution for professional print.

Compression comes in different flavours. If you choose ZIP, the compression is lossless, but less effective than JPEG. You will only see compression artefacts, when using low quality, similar to JPEG. High-quality JPEG compression normally does not give you a visual difference vs no compression.

You can create your own settings and save those. That's what I do. I use standard settings as a model and modify, what I think, is needed to get modified.

Pasting text as Picture is provided for me to print legibly. Default High Quality Setting of Adobe has downsampling; how does this impact on Text as Picture? As organisation worker, as rule of thumb, stick to default setting, I avoid disabling Downsample and Compression; but does it make sense to disable Downsample and Compression improve legibility of text (Arial 6) pasted as picture ?
