Question

Freezing/crashing with advanced search

I have a file folder of multiple PDF's.  Each PDF is a construction map where someone has gone in and added a construction note in the form of a comment.  My co-workers use the advanced search option to search across PDF's in this folder to find comments that contain a specific date so they can bounce between the different pages to find the construction notes.  I am a new employee and for some reason when I try to replicate their process my advanced search and then entire program freezes and fails.

This is what my search criteria looks like.  I blacked out my name for privacy purposes.

These are the search results I get back:

I can click between the different results and it will open up some of the pages with the comments I want to see.  However after a few clicks it will either freeze or my search results graphics will change and the font will start looking like this.

After that, I have to force close the program via Task Manager.

Things I have tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader

Purging search cache and increasing size limit to 500 MB

Searching files locally, via OneDrive, on a USB

Any ideas as to why this happening?  The font change is so odd.  Sometimes I don't even need to click on the search results, simply moving my cursor over the results will change the font and then it's game over.

Thanks for the support with this issue!

Katy

Hi @Katy22657930a7xv

Thanks for reporting the issue. Could you please help us with following deatils:

1. What is the version of Reader?

(Launch Reader > Help > About Acrobat Reader)

2. Is it happening with Reader 32 bit or 64 bit?

3. Is it happening consistently?

Thanks,

Mayank

Hi Mayank,

The version is: 2021.011.20039.  It is the 64-bit.  This issue happens consistently.  Every time I try to use advanced search I get the same results.

Hope this helps.
