Frustrating File Hover Behavior - Enough
Subject: Feedback on File Hover Behavior in Adobe Acrobat
Dear Adobe Team,
I am sharing feedback regarding a recurring usability issue in Adobe Acrobat that impacts workflow efficiency and is a constant source of aggravation.
Currently, when a file is in a hover state (for example, during drag-and-drop or when the mouse is positioned over a file), Acrobat disables the Save and Open options. This behavior often prevents me and other network users who can't see the current state from opening or saving files, even though the file is not actively in use by anyone else.
This restriction feels overly cautious and creates unnecessary friction, especially in collaborative environments or when working with local files. The hover state typically does not indicate an actual lock, so blocking these actions seems counterintuitive and is not used in your other programs.
Why this matters:
- It interrupts productivity and forces users to take extra steps (clicking away or waiting) before performing basic actions.
- It can confuse users who assume the file is locked by another person, when in reality, it’s just a UI state.
Suggested Improvements:
- Allow Save and Open actions unless the file is truly locked or in an incomplete state.
- Provide clearer messaging if a file is genuinely inaccessible.
- Consider an option in Preferences to disable this restriction for local files.
Adobe Acrobat is a powerful tool, and addressing this small but impactful issue would greatly improve user experience.
Thank you for considering this feedback. Please let me know if additional details would help.
