Give us the option to turn off the AI features for fuck's sake.

Every time I hover the cursor over an image it gives me a pointless AI summary. I don’t need this, I can see the image. There’s no way to turn it off. Give users an option to opt out of AI features. They’re crap, useless -- worse than useless, they’re obstructive. I have to use your crappy software for work, and every day you seem to cram in some pointless new feature that makes my life worse. I’m so sick of it. I hope this company kicks the bucket.

Jumping in on this—

I have Gen AI turned off in InD AND in Acrobat and it persists.

Have to go in and turn it off on individual images throughout the layout—today, in an image-heavy publication, eating valuable time on a tight deadline.

FIX THIS AND STOP FORCING AI INTO OUR WORKFLOWS.

Not only have we not asked for most of this slop-producing crap, but it’s being wedged into standard tool menus, slowing down our regular flow.

Beyond this, I’ve had to replace a perfectly functioning 2 year old Macbook to keep up with the processing bloat jammed into all our apps.

Not only are you forcing options that we do not want, many of which are helping destroy our profession with the promise of “replacing” professional design, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to reverse.

Then jacking up your prices to pay for the “benefit” of this unnecessary frustration—I can’t even.

I promise you, attempting to make your primary consumer base obsolete in favour of slop is not a good business model.

Hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

Here's what's likely going on with the "it persists" part. Turning off Auto-generate Alt Text in Preferences only stops it from firing on images you place after you flip the switch. It doesn't retroactively touch images that were already placed and already got AI alt text before you turned it off, which is exactly what you're describing, having to clean up one by one. That's genuinely how it currently works, not something specific to your setup.

About AI being pushed into standard workflows: that's feedback for the product team rather than something support can make it possible, and it carries more weight when logged directly with the product team here https://adobe.ly/4w4WNRH

++ Adding more information

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or with all the PDFs? If the original document was created in Indesign and then exported as PDF file, Go back to Indesign application,there’s a “T” in a circle at the bottom of each image. If you Alt-click that circled T, the alt-text dialog pops up. You can delete it, then click Done. That removes the AI text.

You may turn off the Generative AI features in Adobe Acrobat from its preferences. Go to Preferences (Ctrl,Cmd+K) >Generative AI > Uncheck ‘Enable Generative AI features in Acrobat’ > Click OK and reboot the application.

Hi Amal, I’ve tried following the instructions you’ve listed above and I do not have those same options in my preference settings. It appears those may only work for PC. Any work around this for Mac?

Have you tried the steps shared in the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/desktop/use-acrobat-ai/set-up-acrobat-generative-ai/turn-off-ai.html?linkId=100000426827414 , If not, please give them a try and let us know how it goes.

If it still doesn’t work, let us know if you are on a IT managed work computer or a personal computer as the certian preference options may get locked by the IT admin in the IT managed work computer. If that is the case, please contact your IT admin for further help.
