Question

having issues repairing existing PDF for accessibility

I am working on making two form PDFs accessible. They were created by a national organization and I have no access to source documents but because I need to link them to our website, I need them to be accessible. I’ve attended Adobe webinars and gone through numerous documentation files, but I hope to have someone to look one of these files over with/for me and see if I’m on the right track. There are still a couple of flags about lists that I don’t seem to be able to resolve although they are list items in a list. I thought perhaps someone could do a zoom session with me so that I can actually do the steps and learn better.

Maybe post the specific flags you're running into with the lists? Describe what tool(s) you're using to test compliance, what the errors are, and the steps you've taken so far. That might provide enough general information that someone could take a stab at it. At least someone might be able to offer some philosophical thoughts on how to approach such a problem.

This isn't an easy or quick task to do!

PDF remediation is not easy to do; so much depends upon how well the source file was created and how it was exported to PDF.

My firm does this type of consultation/file review, but we must charge for it like any of our services. I don't like to pitch my firm and our services in the tech forums, but I honestly don't see any other way to help you.

I do have a PDF Remediation class coming up in late February, Class Calendar — PubCom.com and can give you a discount for it.

Contact me off list if you're interested.

Thanks, Bevi. Yes, I understand the difficulties :-( Unfortunately I need to complete it right away, and as an employee of higher education, I have no funds at my disposal to pay to outsource reviews or work. Thank you so much for reaching out.

Cindy.

You can also take Rob Haverty's free online webinar series on remediating PDFs at The Basics of Remediating an Inaccessible PDF  The second session is this Thursday.  Rob is one of Adobe's accessibility experts and is a frequent presenter at academic conferences.
