Hefty cancellation fees

I am a student and have been using adobe for a long time. I just took the trial subscription for some university-related project and I was charged without any notice about my trial ending.

That is the documented behaviour. Check the e-mail you got when you took the plan.

Now I am trying to cancel my subscription, and Adobe is charging me a hefty cancellation fee if I do so.

That also is the documented behaviour. Cancelling after the first 14 days of your paid subscription triggers the early cancellation fee of half of the remaining dues.

 I am so disappointed with the customer support as the never respond.

I don't know how you tried to contact customer service. The best is via chat. Type agent after the first initial questions. You will get connected to an agent. Depending on your region, however, you may be restricted to access to support during the standard office hours.

Adobe customer care can be contacted by beginning a secure chat session at https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen. Pop-up blockers need to be disabled, you need to accept cookies! If the chat window fails to open, or is non-responsive, use a different device and/or browser to start the interaction.

Important: Adobe does NOT contact you unsolicited by e-mail or direct message. If you get contacted by direct message from a person, claiming to be an Adobe employee, look at that profile and check if they bear the “Adobe Employee” marking under their name. Adobe support does not use Skype to give you support.

There's no email support.

Beware of people contacting you via the forums' messaging system pretending to work for Adobe! Only those with an "Adobe Employee" tag under their name are legit. Also, Adobe will never offer to contact you via Skype, or use an email account that's not under the adobe.com domain...
