If you've selected a normal printer (ie, not a virtual PDF printer) then go to the printer properties and make sure that "Print to file" is not ticked.

Printing to PDF is actually creating a pdf file, thats why save dialog box pops out. You can print any PDF file using Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro.
