Adobe will not open. Keep getting a popup stating "running instance of acrobat caused an error". I have uninstalled the app 3 times; right clicked on task bar and deleted anything opened, registry fix and tried messing around with the compatibility.  I'm lost on how to fix the error. It will not even preview the docs. I'm running Windows 10. Please help!! Been working on this for 2 hours.

What is your Acrobat version?

You should try the following:

Uninstall Acrobat (using the Windows tools) — running AcroCleaner https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html downloading a fresh copy of Acrobat https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/download-install-acrobat-subscription.html and install Acrobat again.

This download link appears to be for Adob Creative Cloud.

I simply want the free Adobe Reader.  I keep on downloading from the adobe website, but keep on getting the same issue with the above error.

Hello Kenny!

I hope you are doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble. For the error, please see this article and try the suggestions: https://adobe.ly/41GawkJ

If you have tried all the steps and the issue persists, please restart your machine and ensure all mandatory and optional operating system updates are installed. Then, use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove any corrupt installation files, restart your machine again, and download Acrobat Reader.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
