Question

Hidden artefacts appear when selecting text on PDF saved from InDesign file

We have a document that was designed in InDesign. After it is saved as a PDF, when a person tries to select text, hidden rectangles all over the page appear and are highlighted, jumping back and forth from unhighlighted to highlighted. There is nothing there to be highlighted. We've made many similar documents and not had this before. We want people to be able to copy text from the PDF if needed. Currently this is impossible. Why is this happening?

Hi vahidg84940412,

Thank you for reaching out.

As the issue occurs with a particular file, could you please share the file with us? Also, it would be helpful if you could share the screen recording of the process when selecting text in a PDF. It will help us understand the issue, and we can further investigate it.

Please share the Acrobat, InDesign, and OS version details. Could you share the steps you take to create a PDF from the InDesign file?

We will look into this once we have more information.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

We have viewed the PDF on a PC with Windows 11 Pro, as well as a Mac OS 15.5, and both had the same issues.

Steps for creating a PDF from InDesign: File > Export > (choose file name and folder) > Export

Data sheets we made recently (June 5 & 6) did not have this problem when highlightin text. This is a new problem.

Also, we tried recreating the InDesign document from scratch, but the same type of aretfacts were present in the new PDF.
