Highlight Text w Acrobat XI

Question

I have Adobe Acrobat XI. I can no longer use the Highlight Text function & cannot figure out how to re-enable it.  It's quite frustrating.  At some point when highlighting text on a document, I clicked this fairly annoying msg that pops up (I can't tell you what it said because it no longer pops up) - and as a result (I'm assuming), I can no longer highlight text.  The Highlight Text box is not grayed out. It appears in the toolbar as if I can click/use it, but nothing happens.

Hi monte711131719,Could you please try the steps suggested in the link below?Highlight tool not working - all other tools work highlight tool not working (Edit PDF) Have you tried opening other pdfs in Acrobat and see if highlight option works?Please confirm the version of Acrobat installed on the machine.

I had trouble using the highlighting tool after having used it not too long ago. I suppose it was an update that changed something; however, after some extensive research, I figured out that if you use the Text Recognition option then you can use the highlighter that way. I was actually needing to redact some information in an extensive amount of documents, and just selecting black as the highlighting color enabled me to go through and redact large amounts in a much more time-efficient manner.
