Highlighting

I have the latest Acrobat Pro. When I try to highlight text, the cursor won't highlight just the text I want to select. As soon as I press the cursor, not only does the usual light blue cover the text where the cursor is or where I drag it, the blue covers almost everything above the cursor & text I've dragged it over. When I release the cursor, the blue area turns into an irreugularly shaped blob with a curved edge. I've tried using the Select tool instead of the Highlight tool. Same thing. I tried to underline text. Ditto, except when I released the cursor, this time much text--most of which was not what I slid the cursor over--is overstruck by broad, solid green lines at various angles. What's going on and how do I make the Select tool and related functions operate correctly?

This is usually the result of a badly structured PDF page, generally created outside of Acrobat.

There's not much that can be done about it, short of re-creating the file. One possible way to do that is to export all pages as (high-quality) image files, then create a new PDF from those images and run Text Recognition on it.

When successful it usually yields a much better file, with correct structure.
