How do i create one PDF from multiple folders with more files/folders in?

I have a folder with many files and sub-folders. Within those sub-folders are more files and more sub-folders and so on. Not all of the files are PDFs. there are many GBs of files.

I want to create one PDF with all the files in. they need to be arranged in the same order that they are in now. so the index/bookmarks on the left needs to have folders, with drop down menus (and more folders with drop-down menus in there and so on).

i appreciate it will be a massive job but it needs doing.

After several days trying, i have got nowhere.

Has anyone any ideas?

I've developed a script and a standalone application that can do it. However, I don't think Acrobat will be able to handle it if you have GB's worth of files, so I would recommend the standalone tool, which you can find here: Custom-made Adobe Scripts: Batch Combine All PDF Files In Folders
