How do I embed fonts for end user to edit in Adobe Reader? I'm creating the file in InDesign CC.

I'm designing a file in InDesign CC and I need to have my client be able to edit the PDF in Adobe Reader. Do I need to add the fonts in with Acrobat Pro DC or can I do it all in InDesign? I cannot get anything to work so any/all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Of course, the previous response assumes that you have created a PDF form from InDesign; such forms can filled in Reader but only modified (in terms of properties such as fonts) in Acrobat. Content from a non-form InDesign exported to PDF is never “editable” in Adobe Reader.

Key point: use Acrobat Only to add the fields. It does not replace InDesign for the design.

My question has not been answered because I'm still confused. I have access to all Adobe products, I just need to know what I need to do to have embedded fonts in a PDF where the end user can edit the text in Adobe Acrobat Reader. I don't care how I have to build the PDF, I can do that in many different programs and know how to do that part in many different programs. I just need to know what program to use to get editable text fields with embedded fonts. I'm desperate here, I've been trying to figure this out for nearly a week with no success. Thank you!

Use Acrobat.

Thank you. Is there anything special I have to do or are they automatically embedded?

Yes, a good point. Although you may think of this as "editing" you need to be very clear that Adobe don't. This will bite badly if the user is told they can edit the form in Reader: they will of course click the Edit button and be invited to buy Acrobat. The kind of file you describe is a "fillable" form. Filling is the buzzword. You will need to give detailed end user instructions.

InDesign doesn't offer a change of fonts. You can add the form fields in Acrobat Pro -or- add them in InDesign -then- change the font.
