I bought acrobat pro in 2011 and have my serial number - how do I know what version to download?

I downloaded DC and it won't accept my serial number.  Any ideas?

acrobat x was the then current version.

Downloadable installation files available:

Download and installation help for Adobe links

Download and installation help for Prodesigntools links are listed on most linked pages.  They are critical; especially steps 1, 2 and 3.  If you click a link that does not have those steps listed, open a second window using the Lightroom 3 link to see those 'Important Instructions'.

You need to find out what version you paid for... Acrobat DC was not available in 2011. The current version at the time was X, so unless you bought an older version, that's what you probably got.
If you ever registered it with Adobe (which you certainly should do), the information should be available in your account under My Products.

Once you have it be sure to keep your installer, there is no guarantee you can download old software again. Keep it OUTSIDE your computer because you will need it if the disk or computer fails.
