Question

How do I number pages in two different languages?

I am working on some language learning materials. I want to use a footer to number the pages in two languages (english, and arabic). example: page 2 / صفحة ٢. I have figured out how to use both english and arabic letters in the footer at the same time, but the numbers will only show up in one language or the other. Is it possible to use two numbering systems in the footer, and if so, how do I do it?

Thanks in advance.

I think the only way you could do that (semi-)automatically is by using a script.

Using the automated Header/Footer dialogue window, it appears that regardless what trick you try, it always accept one set of numerials either 1234 or ١٢٣٤. Even if I choose a font that has only this set ١٢٣٤ and even if I separate English on the header and Arabic on the footer, Acroabt will unify both header and footer in the same font.

The only way I was able to do it, is by inserting automated page numbering as [ page 1 / صفحة 1 ], then use the Edit text tool

to manually change it to ready as [ page 1 / صفحة ١ ] but then you have to visit each page and do the needful.
