How to change the text that would appear in a text field?

When someone types in my current text field it appears to be in Times New Roman, but the rest of the form is in Avenir.  Is there a way to change this so that the user would also type in avenir or some sans serif font at the least?  I know there is a complication with this because not all users will have the font to use but is there still a way around this?

Certainly. In Acrobat, go to Form Edit mode, right-click the field (or select multiple fields and then right-click one of them), select Properties, switch to the Appearance tab and select the desired text font there.

The font will be fully embedded in the PDF (if its permissions allow for it), so you don't need to worry about the user having it or not.
