How to fill in Advanced Search options via javascript?

I'm trying to build a pdf form that launches the advanced search dialog. I'd like to have the All PDF

Documents in dropdown box filled in when the dialog opens with a specific file path. Is that possible using javascript and if so how? Not new to programming but new to using javascript.
