How to make an Autorun CD that opens to a searchable index of PDF stored on the CD

At work we have received some products in the past that came with a CD.  The CD is auto run and includes PDF documentation related to the product.  Such as manuals and drawings.  The Autorun opens to an index that spans all PDFs on the CD.  The index is searchable and is made of links that take you to the referenced document.  My boss wants me to create the same thing for some of our products but I have no clue how and cannot find anything online about executable PDF indices.  How to make this happen?  There must be a simple standard way because I have received several from varying sources with identical formatting.  I can't even find indexing options in Acrobat, much less option to make an index that spans multiple PDFs.
