How to make an editable PDF that multiple people can open, add type and save over the original file

I've made an editable PDF and put it on a server so that multiple people can open it and add their info. Unfortunately when they open and add text and try to save it back down they get an error that says it can't be saved. They can do a save as and save it that way but this needs to be one file with everyone's info on it.

I found a post on here from 10-8-15 but the question was never really answered.

I'm using Acrobat Pro DC.

Do you mean you made it fillable? Editable isn't really a thing, if you have Acrobat Pro it may be editable otherwise it isn't.

Yes, sorry, someone here called it that when they asked me to figure out how to do it and it's just stuck in my head now. It's a fillable pdf out of Acrobat Pro DC.

By the way you'd at least need Acrobat (not the free Reader) to edit a PDF (as opposed to form filling, a very different task).

I have the full Acrobat. I created a form and made it editable. I've made several editable pdfs for them to open and fill out and save. I believe they all keep a copy of that editable pdf on their computers. The only difference now is that I've put the editable document on a central server for everyone to get to. Guess it won't work the way I want it to. Maybe someday.

PDF not really any good for that usage. Make a Word doc, change to a PDF when everyone is finished. Still can’t have multiple people editing at the same time though. Maybe Google Docs for this leading edge use.

Not everyone has Word but they have Acrobat Reader. Macs have Pages, but i also have Word on my Mac. So a pdf would be better.
