How to see text I am pasting into PDF file?

I frequently need to paste text into a PDF file.  When I do this, a pop up font menu covers up the spot that I am pasting text into.  How do I disable this menu, force it to occupy space that does not cover up the area of the page that I am actively editing, or otherwise see what I am pasting into the document?
