How to Turn Off Accessibility Grey Popups When Hovering Over Images

Hello,

I need to disable the grey pop-ups that display alt text when hovering over images. However, I need to do this while keeping the alt text embedded in the document for obvious accessibility reasons. That is, the document must remain accessible and meet all accessibility requirements, but I need these pop-ups not to appear when they are not needed.

This is essential for presenting work in settings where no accessibility support is needed, while the document retains accessibility features for other instances. Please let me know how to do this.

Thank you.

If you don’t need the accessibility at all, optimize the PDF (Save as Other...)

Turn off every option except Discard Objects>Discard document tags.

You might be able to get round the problem using JavaScript by utilising the ‘Mouse Enter’ and ‘Mouse Exit’ triggers.

Make the ‘Mouse Enter’ action store the alt-text in a variable and then delete it.
And make the ‘Mouse Exit’ action restore the string stored in the variable as the alt-text.

    Hi @Sergio_Lopez-Pineiro5495

    Thanks for reaching out.

Could you please share a few screenshots of the pop-ups you are referring to?

If I understand your concern correctly, you cannot turn off those grey hover pop-ups in Adobe Acrobat without removing the underlying tag/alternate text. The pop-ups are generated automatically from the document’s accessibility tags (the /Alt attribute in the tag structure). Acrobat does not provide a setting to suppress them while keeping the alt text embedded.

    You can try:

    • Use Full Screen Mode in Acrobat, the pop-ups wont appear, and alt-text will remain intact.

    • Create a Presentation Copy (If Absolutely Necessary)

Wait for more inputs from the accessibility experts in the community.

    Yes, you’ve understood me correctly.

It’s incomprehensible that the accessibility pop-ups can’t be turned off.

    Thank you for your response!

    Hello @Sergio_Lopez-Pineiro5495

++ In addition to what our Adobe Employee shared, you can use the Adobe Wish form to file a feature request with the product team.

    Thanks,
