Hyperlink in Acrobat PDF export not clickable after converting from Word / InDesign

Hi everyone,

I'm running into an issue with interactive hyperlinks when exporting documents to PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro (Windows 11).

I created a local home maintenance checklist brochure where I linked resources for local homeowners, such as this guide for pest control in chandler.

In the original source document, the URL is properly formatted and active. However, after exporting/converting it to PDF and opening it in Acrobat Reader, the anchor text appears styled with the blue underline, but clicking on it does nothing.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  1. Checked Preferences > General > Create links from URLs (enabled).

  2. Tried using Tools > Edit PDF > Link > Add/Edit Web or Document Link manually, which works, but I need the links from the source file to carry over automatically without manual re-linking every page.

  3. Verified that security settings aren't blocking external web access under Preferences > Trust Manager > Internet Access from PDF Files.

Is there a specific export preset or Acrobat setting I need to adjust so that anchor text hyperlinks retain their clickability automatically upon export?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

@Dreamy_Heroa262 make sure you add the https:// to the url; I sometimes notice when I don’t add that on certain links, it doesn’t work for me

    Hi Dreamy_Heroa262,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue.

Could you please confirm the format file that you are converting to PDF? You might need to enable the Add link option in the application settings.

    Please try the following steps:

    • Launch Acrobat, go to Menu > Preferences > Convert to PDF.

    • In the right-hand window, select the format.

    • Then click on Edit Settings.

    • In the settings window, if the option to add links to an Adobe PDF file is available, enable it.

    • Click on the OK button to save the changes.

Let us know if that helps.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
