hyperlinks stop working

Hi guys I am using Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro I have been having an issue for awhile when creating hyperlinks to documents.  The links I am creating are relative so work anywhere any time (in theory) however I have seen that when I try and winzip the folder to send somewhere it looks as though that might break some of the links does anyone know if this is the case or know to fix /stop it.  It's random some links work and other don't.  I'm not even sure that this issue is confined to winzip as others in my team have had issues when creating hyperlinks without going near winzip, any ideas?

When you have links between files, you can ZIP the files. Later you can unzip and all should be well. But in Windiws you can directly view the ZIP file as if it is a folder, and double click to open. But links cannot work, because it isn't really a folder, just a view in explorer. Common problem. If you try to run an EXE from a ZIP, Windows will offer to unzip all files first, but this won't happen with a PDF.

How, and where, are you creating those links?

You can check if they are relative by moving the file to another folder and seeing if they continue pointing to the same file-location or not.

If they do, then they are not relative.

We create a top level folder and within that we might have a few sub folders (e.g common bundle vol. 1, vol.2 etc) we have the index to those sub folders sitting at the same level as the sub folders and we link into the folders.  We check the links and they all work.  We then winzip the top level folder.  When we retest we extract the folders from the winzip and at that point some of the links work and others don't.

TSN's reply is the correct description of what's happening. When you open a file directly from a zipped archive what actually happens is that that file is extracted to a temporary folder and then opened. As such, the links in it will not work because not all the files were extracted with it, only that one file. If you want it to work you must unzip everything first, and then open your file.
