Correct answer

As Jeff has asked, what error mesage do you receive when you try and open any pdf files in finder?

It may be the linkage to the default program has changed.

Use this url to check on the default link, and change it to Preview or Acrobat Pro or Adobe Reader.

Um.  That's not the problem, because I could go into Safari and use their onscreen tools to download and view.  Apparently this all happened in the last update for Firefox for Macs.  This is how we fixed it (courtesey of our Mac tech on campus):

Go to the hard drive--

Then Library--

Then Internet Plugins.

At the top of the list are two Adobe plugins.

Delete those.  Restart the browser.

It should work fine now.

Again.  There were no error messages.  There was just a blank page and no action in the download menu, nothing showing up on the desktop.  But deleting the Adobe plugins worked.  Hope this can help others!  (And maybe those at Adobe, who might want to be aware of this problem.)

couldnt find adobe plugins to delete.  used spotlight.   -----  i installed and unistalled acrobat reader for mac on leopard 10.5.8.  using safari as the web browser.  tried to open a pdf on safari.  nothing happened.  got a message that "adobepdfviewer.plugin" (this may not be the exact text that is why it is in quotes).  followed opquilt direction on how to restore safari/web browser to open pdfs again.  there was nothing in the library/internet plugins for me to delete.  went to spotlight and typed in "adobepdf" this showed me 2 adobe plugin files (exactly where opquilt said they were!! why i didnt see them when i used Finder to go there i dont know... wasnot logged in as administrator, perhaps).  i selected them and deleted them in spotlight.  had to enter the administrator user name and password before they were deleted.  now it works just opquilt said it would.

Here is a troubleshooting guide that helped me to make it work with 10.8 Mountain Lion, Firefox 14.0.1 and Acrobat 10.1.4:

Do you have Adobe Reader or have you purchased a version of Adobe Acrobat?  If so which version?  Also which operating system are you using?

Hello

I downloaded Adobe Reader and I have a MAC (Lion). I used to be able to

open PDF with what I have and then all of a sudden it stopped working and I

have to save them and then open them and sometimes it works and sometimes it

doesn't so I am not sure what happened. Do you know what could have

happened?

Moving this discussion to the Acrobat Installation & Update Issues forum.  If you could also please respond with the error message you receive when you try to open your PDFs?
