I Cannot Print Turkish Letters

Hello! There is a document that I want to print which is written with Lucida Sans and includes Turkish Letters (such as İ and Ğ) in it. However when I try to print the documents the printed version is clearly written with another font than what I see in the pdf file. And also there are blank spots on where the turkish letters supposed to be. I can print the same document via another app and there is no problem. And if I remember correctly there was not such a problem before. My macos is 15.5 (24F74) and my adobe is pro Build: 25.1.20529.0

And here is the weird thing that I just discovered: As I said the pdf document itself is not being printed correctly, but if I convert it to a Word file I can print it as it should be. And if I export that word to pdf, I also can print it as it should be. But the raw version of it cannot be printed properly and no fonts nothing is changed. It is completely the same document as before.

Hi @SONALP_DE??RMENC?O?LU8489,

Thanks for the details — and you’re right, it’s frustrating when a PDF won’t print properly, especially when other apps like Word work fine. From what you described, this sounds like an issue with font embedding or substitution in the PDF.

Here’s what could be happening:

  • The PDF might be using a font that isn’t fully embedded.

  • Acrobat may be struggling to substitute Turkish characters properly during the print process, especially if the font encoding is non-standard.

  • Word may be handing this font fallback more flexibly, which is why printing from Word works.

Things to Try:

1. Check font embedding:

  1. Open the PDF in Acrobat

  2. Go to File > Properties > Fonts

  3. See if the fonts listed are Embedded or Embedded Subset

    • If not embedded, the printer may not interpret Turkish characters correctly

2. Print as image (temporary workaround):

Try printing using the “Print as Image” option:

  • Go to File > Print

  • Click Advanced

  • Enable “Print as Image”

  • Click OK > Print

This bypasses font rendering and sends the entire page as a rasterized image to the printer.

3. Recreate the PDF with full font embedding:

If possible, re-export the original document to PDF and ensure:

  • Fonts are fully embedded (especially the one used for Turkish text)

  • Avoid font subsetting

  • If exporting from Word, use “Save As > PDF” and check “Standard (for electronic and print distribution)”

4. Update printer drivers and Acrobat:

Sometimes, recent updates resolve rendering issues. Make sure:

  • Acrobat is fully up to date (Help > Check for Updates)

  • Printer drivers are the latest version from the manufacturer

Let us know if you’d like help inspecting the PDF or walking through font checks — happy to assist further.
