Question

I don't want all my documents on the cloud

I am in the process of working on a few novels, a recipe book, a children's book, a teleplay, a screenplay, some personal poems some are laughable and embarrassing and some might be valid as songlyrics and some weird and whacky lists as well as some budget spreadsheets and a list of all the jewelry I own (costume junk - don't get excited, but still) personal opinions.... some very private stuff, and I just realized it's ALL saved onto the Cloud. I don't want it there. I want it private, on my own computer. I just tried to save a file for an idea for a Winter Solstice Menu. I am not a Witch. I like to eat and use any excuse possible to hold a dinner party. I am not Chinese and I have a CHinese New Years menu. I am not Jewish and have a Hanukah Menu... get it? I just like food and music and cooking and decorating tables and making people happy. I'm a private person. My novel ideas, scripts, poems, recipes, I don't want this stuff stolen. I don't want people to see my budget, my lists of where I want to visit next year...it's "Me" and I don't want to share any of it until I deem it ready for publishing, or for the garbage where some of it probably belongs. I feel naked, How can I get it back just onto my machine? I want my HP back WAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! I hate Apple!

I totally agree I have been working on a family history book and once docs are in the cloud I can't retrieve them. This has been 25 years of labor and research; I'm 78 and don't have another 25 years. I am so angry I could scream!

Is it only on the cloud? That's very unlikely. You most likely have local copies of it on your computer.

Also, what exactly happens when you try to access it from the cloud? And be aware that are global issues today with web-based services, so the fact it's not working right now doesn't necessarily mean it's gone. It could just be inaccessible temporarily.

The fact it's on the cloud doesn't mean it's public. Only you have access to your cloud, unless you decide to share it with others. However, you can disable syncing files to the cloud through the CC app, if you prefer.

Okay...thanks. I'm 56 and retired so I'm an idiot. 😉

No, you're not an idiot.

Anything can be hacked and the data stolen, even Adobe's cloud. Or Amazon's AWS. Or Apple's iCloud, Microsoft's OneDrive, DropBox, ShareFile, and all the others.

And your computer, too, can be hacked but that's less likely to happen to your computer than to Adobe's cloud servers.

The only reason to save anything to any cloud-based storage is because you either 1) want to share it with others, or 2) you want to access your files from any computer you happen to be using wherever you are in the world.

I don't use Adobe's cloud storage (Creative Cloud Libraries) so I can't offer any help on how to transfer your files to your desktop and delete the cloud version. And then permanently turn off cloud libraries. Open the Libraries panel (Window / Libraries) and see what your options are there.

Hopefully, another ACP knows how to transfer the files from the cloud to your computer. But in the meantime, you can open each file and then File / Save As where you control where the files are stored. Navigate to a folder on your desktop computer rather than put it in the cloud library.
