I have a fillable business card pdf that works in Acrobat Pro.

How do  I create an 8.5x11 page with 10 copies

that retains the fillability? InDesign strips out everything

Extra: I have a pdf template (ID) for a card cutter that I would

like to use for card placement and then delete after if possible

    Hello @Bruce.Rader,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out and sharing all the details.

You're right that InDesign flattens form fields when a fillable PDF is placed; that's expected behaviour. Use Acrobat Pro for duplicating pages and form fields while retaining fillability. This is the only supported approach.

Please note that the suggestions below may or may not work, as they depend on the environment of the app and the machine. Also, ensure that you have the latest build of Acrobat installed on the machine.

    Suggestions:

Start with your fillable business card PDF: Open the card in Adobe Acrobat Pro. Confirm fields work using Prepare a form. https://adobe.ly/4eMadNI

Create a letter‑size (8.5×11) page: Go to Organize Pages, choose Insert > Blank Page. Set size to Letter (8.5 × 11 inches). https://adobe.ly/49kxO4D

Duplicate the card form fields (not just graphics): Switch to Prepare a form. Select all form fields on the business card. Right‑click > Create Multiple Copies. Use: Across and Down options to create a 2×5 or similar grid. Adjust spacing to match card size. This retains full fillability.

Ensure each card is independently fillable: After duplication, rename fields. Fields with the same name share data. Use unique names (e.g., Name_1, Name_2…).

    I hope this helps.

Well nothing has worked. What I ended up doing what creating the whole template with lines for borders and live area (for positioning the fields) in InDesign and exporting as a PDF. I then copied all the fields from my single copy and placed them using the form section in the template pdf. Once everything was positioned I deleted all the borders and live area lines. Voilà!

Unfortunately it does not allow me to create a new page at 8.5x11. There is no way to change dimensions and it creates a new page the same size as the business card

    Try the following suggestions:

Option 1: Insert from a separate Letter-size PDF

Create a new PDF with the required size (8.5 × 11):

Go to File > Create > Blank Page (this uses the default document size)

    Save that PDF
Open your target document > Organize Pages > Insert > From File
    Insert the saved Letter-size page

    Option 2: Use a pre-created template page

Keep a reusable blank Letter-size PDF
Insert it whenever needed via Insert > From File.

Or use the layout from InDesign, export the file to PDF. Open it in Acrobat and add form fields.

Thanks for responding. I assume I can leave all the fields with the same names if the end user is filling out the card and the same data copies to all the cards?. This will be a template for business cards for one person only. We have a bulk card cutting machine . . .

@Bruce.Rader Thanks for the follow-up. Yes, you can keep all the field names the same if your goal is to have the same data automatically appear on all 10 business cards.

Only change the field names if:

    • You want each card to have different information (e.g., multiple employees on one sheet)

    Otherwise, leave the names as-is.

    I hope this helps.
