Question

If I am subscribing to always have latest versions, why am I getting a message: Support Ending for Intel-based Apps This version of “Acrobat” will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version?

If I am subscribing monthly to Creative Cloud Pro, which has more than tripled in price, in order to always have latest versions, why am I getting a message: Support Ending for Intel-based Apps This version of “Acrobat” will not open in a future release of macOS. Learn how to update to an Apple silicon version?

Hi, @Dr. Elisa Novick DSS, there is a component within Acrobat that has not been updated YET. Because the current and recent OS from Apple have had a component called Rosetta, it could work with Intel instructions. Starting with Mac OS 27, Rosetta will be removed and any application that is not 100% “M,” will not work.

If anything, this is both a call to all software engineers that the public knows this is coming up and they NOW know this is coming up.

I have a strong hunch that Adobe will get these last bits of software reprogramed before the release of OS 27.

However, between you and me, I’d not be the first person to update to OS 27, best to wait a month or two. But I say this for ALL updates, not becuase of this issue.

Slightly off topic, but I wonder how frustrated developers get with Apple.
They have used 4 different chips/architectures over the years, not to mention the rewrites required by the OS changes such as OSX, 64-only bit, etc.

...and you only scratched the surface. at least some of those developers are not excited about all those changes. if there are any who are excited then they are most likely paid hourly and celebrate all that overtime they clock.
