Hi Anand,

Thank you for the quick response. Here are the details you asked for, plus some important context that I think changes the diagnosis significantly.

MOST IMPORTANT DETAIL:
This is NOT a font issue with a specific PDF. The problem started suddenly on August 18-19, 2026, and now affects EVERY PDF I open, including files I had edited without any issue as recently as one week before. Files that copy-pasted correctly for the past 4 months suddenly stopped working, with no changes made to the files themselves. This points to a system/application-level issue rather than a font-embedding issue in individual documents.

SETUP DETAILS:
- App: Acrobat Pro desktop app (not web, not Edit PDF mode)
- Version: 26.001.21789 (64-bit), installed/updated on 18/08/2026
- OS: Windows 11
- Workflow: selecting text in a normal (non-scanned) PDF, copying it, and pasting into another application (e.g. Word). The text highlights/selects normally and appears to copy, but pasting produces garbled symbols or blank spaces instead of the correct text.
- Copying an IMAGE from the same PDF works perfectly - only text copy/paste is affected.
- This happens across MULTIPLE different PDF files, including ones that worked fine before 18/08/2026 - it is not isolated to one document.

WHAT I HAVE ALREADY TESTED AND RULED OUT:
1. Restarted the computer multiple times - no change
2. Tested on a colleague's laptop with the same Acrobat Pro version - copy/paste works fine there, so it is specific to my machine
3. Tested Acrobat on the web (browser version) on my own machine - after granting the browser's local font access permission, copy/paste worked correctly there. Only the desktop app is affected.
4. Checked Windows Update history - a Windows security update (KB5121003) and a Windows update (KB5120708) were installed on 18/08/2026, the same day as the Acrobat update. I uninstalled both as a test and restarted - the Acrobat text copy/paste problem persisted, so it does not appear to be caused by these specific Windows updates.
5. Checked Windows Event Viewer under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Win32k > Operational for Event ID 260 (Untrusted Font Blocking) - no such events were logged, so font-loading is not being blocked by that Windows security feature.
6. Disabled Protected Mode and Enhanced Security in Preferences > Security (Enhanced) - no change.
7. Confirmed it is not a keyboard or general clipboard issue - copying images works fine, and other applications' copy/paste (outside Acrobat) work normally.

Given all of this, my current best guess is that the August 18, 2026 Acrobat update (26.001.21789) introduced a regression affecting text extraction/clipboard handling in the desktop app specifically, since:
- It affects all PDFs uniformly (not a single document's font issue)
- It started exactly when this version was installed
- The same PDFs work fine in Acrobat on the web and on another machine with the same Acrobat version but presumably an earlier build or different environment
- Images copy fine, meaning general clipboard functionality is not broken - only text extraction from PDFs

I will still check the items you requested (Document Properties > Fonts, and Preferences > Content Editing > Fallback font for Editing) and report back, but given that this affects previously-working files uniformly, I don't believe this is a font-embedding problem in the documents themselves.

Could you please check if there are any known issues reported for build 26.001.21789 related to text copy/paste, or advise on how to roll back to the previous Acrobat build while a fix is investigated? I was unable to find an official way to download a previous version of the Continuous track myself.

I need to resolve this urgently as it is blocking editing work on a product catalog.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

Hello @innovative_geniusfa8a Thank you for the detailed information.

For testing purposes, can you please create a test user profile with full admin rights, install the latest build in the new profile, and check the workflow?

If the issue still continues in the new profile, please share a sample PDF file and the logs from the machine for further investigation. To collect the logs, please check this article: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-diagnostics.html

Regards,

Anand Sri.

Hello @innovative_geniusfa8a,

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. We're sorry for the trouble you had.

Could you please share more details about the issue?

Are you using the Acrobat Pro desktop app, and what is the version? When you say “taglia-incolla,” are you using Edit > Cut/Paste inside Edit PDF mode, or copying text from the PDF and pasting it into another application? Is it happening with all the PDFs, or specific to one PDF?

Please note that gibberish on the copy comes from the PDF's fonts (a font with no proper Unicode mapping copies as random symbols).

Check the font used by the affected text

Go to Menu > Document Properties > Fonts and record the exact font name and whether it is listed as Embedded or Embedded Subset. Adobe specifically advises checking font embedding when copy-and-paste text behaves incorrectly. Adobe also notes that an unavailable font may be substituted and that text can be fully edited in its original font only when that font is installed on the computer. Check these articles for more details: https://adobe.ly/4xnVkHB

https://adobe.ly/45R9qFy

You can also review Menu > Preferences > Content Editing > Fallback font for Editing. Adobe documents this setting for cases where the original font is unavailable. Please record the selected fallback font and, if appropriate, test with an installed font using a copy of the PDF.

If the PDF is scanned, review its OCR text layer

Acrobat automatically applies OCR when a scanned PDF is opened in Edit mode. Use All tools > Scan & OCR > Correct recognized text, enable Review recognized text, and review any highlighted recognition errors. If OCR has not been applied, use All tools > Scan & OCR > In this file > Recognize Text first.

Let us know how it goes, and share your observations. Please reach out if you experience any issues or need any assistance.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
