Im setting up a form but need the text fields to be completely transparent. Currently they have a light blue field behind it, can it be removed, if so, how? Current setting is "no background".

Yes, you can remove it, but it might appear for your users, as this is an application setting... It's possible to add a script to the file that will disable it, but that is problematic, as it will also affect other files opened by the user.

To remove it, go to Edit (or the Acrobat menu if you're on a Mac) - Preferences - Forms and tick off "Show border hover color for fields".

It would be great if the visual formatting of form fields could be customized by those of us who create forms. Sometimes it's helpful to have certain fields in a specific color (or other visual formatting, like borders) to signify something.

I don't find it particularly help to have the form field background color set by the application which changes depending upon what the user has set.

I agree. It should be a document setting, not an app setting. You should add your voice to this request to make it so: Per-document Highlight Form Field setting – Share your feedback on Acrobat DC
