Images and font quality is diminished when running Acrobat optimizer

How can I prevent Acobat from diminishing the quality of images and fonts during optimization processing? Even when the only thing I do is remove background or deskew the fonts become pixelated.

Images and font quality? Fonts do not get affected by optimizing...except if they are part of the image and then they are no more fonts. Optimisation is a trade off of quality and size. There is not very much you can do about except finding out the parameters that work for your particular case.

If it is a scan there are no fonts, only a picture. If it is not a scan, don't use deskew, it will ruin fonts.

It was a scan of a document performed on a small format scanner in pdf format. The document contains font and some pictures. we scanned at 400 dpi. We are getting some greying in the background of the scan that is not evident in the physical copy, Im guessing the scanner is picking up something in the paper. Anyway, when I run the Adobe "optimize scanned PDF" and turn off everything but background removal set at medium and run it, it works great on removing the background but also pixelates and degrates the font and photos.

That's what is to be expected. Your scan was to dark, so the scanner took up some background from the paper. you need to rescan. that would optimize the scan. Also, I'm quite sure that 400 dpi is overkill. 300 to 200 would do the affair.

Acrobat does a bad job in optimizing pictures the way you want it to do. I use Photoshop to optimize such scans. It's less difficult to handle.
