In the past, I could open a previously created PDF file choose edit and remove objects and add new ones. Then put small rectangles and text on top of them. Now, when I try to add a rectangle, it will draw it but can not be edited. I have to use the undo function to delete it.  If I put a text box on top of the rectangle the letters disappear, as if they go behind the rectangle.  Is there a different mode I need to be in?

A: That's a layering issue. Try right-clicking (Arrange) on the rectangle after placing it and selecting "Send to Back" so your text appears on top. There are other keyboard shortcuts or right-click, "Send to Back," "Bring to Front," "Send Backward," or "Bring Forward"
