Inconsistent character spacing when converting word to PDF in PDF Maker

When I convert a word doc to PDF using Acrobat DC Pro's PDF Maker, the PDFs are poor quality with inconsistent spacing and spaces between words. I've reinstalled DC Pro, reset all settings to defaults, and made sure DC Pro and Microsoft Office 2016 are fully updated. I've restarted several times, but the issue persists. I called Adobe's phone support, but they didn't have any ideas.

Anything else I can try?

You can try providing some screen shots of what you see and even better, posting a sample Word document and resultant PDF file so that we can see what is really going on.
