Indexing PDFs in Acrobat DC

I understand that Acrobat will no longer generate embedded indexes in PDFs. Rectifying this issue involves changing the PC Registry.

I am willing to go that far in creating and searching with embedded indexes, but I hesitate to do this. Surely there was a good reason for Adobe to do this? If it is performance or security related, I will not proceed. If not, then I will go ahead, but recommend reinstalling this feature in future versions. We deal with very large PDF files and see this as a very good feature to have.

Can someone tell me please why this was done and whether one should go ahead and use the Registry fix?

You can generate embedded indexes with Acrobat DC Pro.

    Hi.

    Thanks for the response.

Yes, the index can be generated, but it cannot be used. A multiple document index can also be generated and this one can be used if one were to point the advanced search screen to that index.

The reason why I wanted an embedded index is to be able to do proximity searching on single large document.

After changing the registry you can use the enbedded index.
