initial view settings ignored

This started happening today:
When I open a PDF that has been set to open "Page Only" in the Initial View pane (no bookmarks or layers panel etc.) the bookmarks panel appears anyway. If I set the PDF to open with the bookmarks, layers, or pages panel it works as it should. But if I select the "Page Only" option it *always* shows the bookmarks panel, which for some docs I don't want to see. Now if I open the same PDF with Foxxit Reader I get the desired view. I have tried repairing the Adobe installation twice, but the problem remains. Has anyone else experienced this?
