installed Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and keeps saying no internet connection

I know this has got to be in your database for an answer but after 4 hours now of searching and chatting with a rep at Adobe, I still can't get this to activate.  can someone please direct me to what I'm doing wrong?  Very simply, the harddrive had to be wiped and I am now reinstalling to same computer and the old serical number would't activate and then I got a new serial number from the chat board and someone at Adobe and this too give me this message and the chat person told me to go to the forums.  H E L P please!!

P.s.  I have two serial numbers for this product now.  if someone directs me on what to do, which serial number should I use?

Hi Hrdbawl,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are facing issue when trying to activate Acrobat 8 on the machine, is that correct?

As mentioned you have two serial numbers for Acrobat, try uninstalling the existing version installed on the machine, "downloaded the replacement Acrobat installer" given on the page ( link below) and provide the new serial number.

Refer to the steps given in this help document for the same: Activation or connection error when starting CS3 or Acrobat 8

This has not worked for me. I uninstalled the old copy, restarted, used the link provided to install the new version, and I still can't register the product.
