Interactive Comments to 3D PDF

Hi all,

I'm trying to make a 3D PDF display surface thickness tolerances when a feature is selected. The default 3D comments are great, but if I add one to every surface the image gets very clustered. I'd like those comments to only appear when a user selects a surface. A text pop up or dynamic text off the the side would also do the trick.

I know surfaces are selectable, so I imagine it's possible with Java but my knowledge of that is very limited. Does anyone have any experience with this or any examples that might get me started?
