Interactive PDF and Flash

Interactive PDFs from InDesign:

As is well known, Flash is used for the display of video and audio formats.

But what about the rest of the animations such as turning pages or buttons etc. Are they also based on Flash or do you need a plugin? Or is another script used?

Thanks for your feedback

Nothing is based on Flash now. You may have noticed it has been removed in the current version. Flash Player is nearing its last days. It will be blocked from the end of this year, so it should not be part of anyone's current plans.

Buttons are built into PDF and work if a suitable Reader is used; however, interactivity doesn't work in many readers and so this is best avoided. Page turning is the most appalling invention, and I will be very glad never to see it again.

So is there an alternative solution to enable interactive pdfs (eg mp4 or gif) now that Flash is deceased??

MP4 videos should still work in Acrobat and Reader, if updated to the latest version.

Animated gifs were never supported in PDFs.
