Interactive PDF functionality broken after update?

Hi! Since this September update, Interactive PDFs are functioning correctly on Macs. Rollovers don't work, everything is lagging like crazy. Initially I thought it may be an indesign export issue, but opening previously working older interactive PDFs the problem seems to be an Acrobat issue. Anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for reaching out and sorry for the trouble.

Would you mind elaborating on the issue you are expeirencing?

Share the current applicaiton and OS version on your Mac.

Did you check if the issue occurs with interactive PDFs only?

It would be helpful if you can share a sample PDF and video of the issue.

We will be waiting for your response. It will help us to further investigate this issue.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi, thaks for getting abck to me on this.
As mentioned above, it's not a single Mac, but across a number of Macs in our studio, with different OS within the last 2-3 versions - however, all with the latest Acrobat version.

Yes, the issue is with interactive PDFs - rollover buttons not working, extreme lag on any interactivity. (click to show/hide other buttons specitically).

As mentioned above - all was working fine previously, so there is not issue with the PDF files or setup of interactivity, The only changed variable is the Acrobat version update.

Thanks! Cheers!

Hello

Has there been any updates on these issues. We are having exactly the same problems where the setup and preview of buttons is correct in Indesign but swapping layers and losing fucntionality  after export.

It's becoming a real issue as it's interferring with our ability to product interactive PDFs to the same standard we have previously offered our clients.

Thank you!

Report this problem at Adobe's UserVoice forum, where bugs and features are sent to Adobe. This forum is just a user-to-user help forum and your comments will go nowhere.

There are quite a few bugs with the September 14th 2021 release of Acrobat 2021, some more drastic than others. Let Adobe know about your issues and give them this information:

  • Your operating system and version
  • Since you're on Mac, also your hardware (M1 or ICore processor)
  • Source application and version (that would be InDesign 20?? for you)
  • And when the PDF is made, check its File / Document Properties / Description tab and state which PDF Producer is listed in that dialogue box (this tells what version of InDesign's internal utility was used to export the PDF)

And of course, describe what you're experiencing with your PDFs. The more details, the better. And if you can supply a sample PDF file, that's even better.

As our noteworthy colleague Bob Levine @BobLevine says, interactive anything in a PDF is a crapshoot. And that's with or without the crazy September 2021 update.
