Is Adobe Acrobat Pro DC's Insert 3D feature simply broken now?

So, I have a simple .u3d file of a cube generated via the following workflow: Export cube from 3ds Max as .3DS file -> import into Photoshop -> export 3D layer from photoshop as .U3D.

If I attempt to add it to a PDF via [Insert 3D -> Select File + Open -> Ok] in a colleague's copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC Version 2019.012.20035 (Windows) it crashes almost immediately.

However, if I follow the same process in my copy of Adobe Acrobat X Version 10.1.16 (mac) it works fine.

Has anyone managed to get Insert 3D working recently in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC?

I'm using DC on a Mac and Windows and it works fine on both. On Windows, you need to first check the box in the 3D and Multimedia preferences to enable playing of 3D content before placing the 3D content or Acrobat DC will crash.

Thanks Joel, that got it working!  Hopefully this is a bug on Adobe's end and not intended behaviour...

I think it was just an oversight. It is intentional that the 3D viewing is off by default but I don't think it was intentional to not flip it on automatically when the tool actually gets selected during authoring.
