Question

Is it possible to export the values from filled-in fields to a specific CSV format?

Hi!

I apologize in advance if I'm not using correct phrasing and/or if I'm not asking my question in a super understandable way. I'm dazed and confused, lol.

I created a fillable PDF payroll reporting form that is used by others. It has well over 200 fields that have to be filled in. I need them to be able to export the filled-in info to .csv, to upload to an online system, but the info in the .csv has to be in a specific order to keep the system happy that it's uploading to.

The PDF payroll form has a lot of formulas so that the user has to fill in only so many of the fields and the rest of the fields autofill.

The system that the .csv gets uploaded to provides a .csv template but all 200+ fields have to be filled in manually, there are no formulas or autofill fields.

The .csv template has a header row and the columns have specific names/titles. The cells are all formatted as "general". The exported .csv from my PDF has to match the template layout exactly.

I'd like the user to be able to fill in the PDF form I created (because less keystrokes with it than with the .csv) and then export it to a .csv format and have it be accepted by the system that it gets uploaded to.

Is it possible for me to set this up so that they can do this?

Thank you so much!!

Diane

Hi dianed97898145,

Thank you for reaching out.

Please refer to the information in the following help document: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/collecting-pdf-form-data.html. Check if that helps.

Let us know if you are referring to something else.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Thank you, Meenakshi!

I followed the link and have focused on the "Export File Data" and "Merge Exported Data Files to a Spreadsheet" sections.

Unfortunately, I don't have the options that these two sections refer to. It tells me to select "Prepare A Form" so I selected "Prepare Form". It says after selecting that to select "Export Data" (for the first section mentioned above) or "Merge Data Files into Spreadsheet" (for the second section mentioned above).

I don't have either of those options after selecting "Prepare Form". Please see the image to see what options I have.

I'm using Acrobat Standard.

Also, I am not the end user but I'm responsible for them being able to use it. They won't be submitting this to me, it's for them to submit to an online system. Will the end users be able to do this no matter whether they're using the free Reader, Standard, and/or Premium?

Thank you again! 🙂

Hi dianed97898145 ,

Thank you for the information.

It seems that you are using an old version of Acrobat. Once you select the prepare form option, click on the Start button on the page, as shown in the screenshot you shared.

Assuming that you are using the old version, use the following steps:

- In the next window, click on the drop-down icon for the "More" option in the right-hand tool pane.

- Then select the Export data from the list of the options.

If you are using the new Acrobat, use the following steps:

- In the next window, click on three dots at the top right corner of the left-hand tool pane.

- Then click on the options Export data from the list of options.

Let us know if you experience any issues.

Thanks,

Meenakshi
