Issue with hyperlinks attached to images - created in Word converting to pdf

We have encountered a recent issue when attaching hyperlinks to images in a Word document, then converting to pdf.  This has always worked up until now.  Now the hyperlink, which is active in the Word document, becomes an inactive hyperlink when converted to pdf.  The hyperlink works if attached to text, that's ok, but does anyone know why the hyperlink to images no longer works in pdf?

This is something that happened in a recent update. Mac users in our office were having this for a while and now it has affected all PC users. I have tested pretty much everything (turning off accessibility options, saving different formats, converting directly from within Acrobat Pro, using different browsers and 3rd party PDF viewers etc) and have found no solution. Best thing to do for now is attach links to text as Microsoft has made no indication of fixing it.

Hi  there

We hope you are doing well. Thanks for reaching out. We are sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

As described, a hyperlink that is active in the Word document becomes inactive when converted to PDF.

Would you mind sharing the steps you are taking to create the PDF from the Word document? Please try to create the PDF from Word using the Acrobat ribbon present in the MS Word toolbar at the top right.

  • Open the MS Word file > go to Acrobat ribbon at the top.
  • Go to Preferences > make sure 'Add links' is selected > Click OK

Also, once the PDF is created, Go to Preferences (Ctrl,Cmd+K) > General > Select 'create links from URL' > Click OK and reboot the application and check.
