Issues savings revisions of a PDF over the first version

I run a lot of reports.  If I save one, it opens in Adobe Acrobat Standard 64-bit.  If I make changes and run the report again, Adobe won't save the new version under the same name if the original is still open.  I understand that, but there is no prompt/warning that it's not saving.  It tells me that file name already exists, and asks if I want to replace it.  I say yes.  That's where the problem lies.  It asks if it can save over it, I tell it to, and then it doesn't save, and doesn't tell me.

Is there something I can do in settings so that I will get a prompt to say that it failed to save?

You can't overwrite a file if it's open in Acrobat.

What does that mean?   Moving it to another group to look at, or just closing out my question?
