Question

Javascript being randomly deleted

Occasionally Acrobat will remove custom calculation javascript from a field property - open text field properties, go to  Calculate.  Usually there is a snipit of the javascript viewable in the Custom Calculation  Script box but sometimes the javascript will show for a second then the field seems to reset back to 'value is not calculated'.  It seems to happen more often on forms that have a lot of custom calculations or validations.  Sometimes closing the form without saving and closing Adobe too will clear the issue, sometimes I have to completely restart either my laptop or desktop (depending on which I'm using). Even then the issue can continue.   I can't use Undo as the removal is not captured in the edit history.

Laptop - Acrobat PRO (subscription) 2024.005.20320

Desktop - Acrobat PRO 2017 classic 2017.012.30262

Any brilliant suggestions what might be causing this and how to stop it?

Thanks

Try to revert to the Classic UI: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/acrobat-2023-how-to-revert-to-classic-gui-user-interface/td-p/14052807
Consider the "new Acrobat" as a beta version, many features are still missing or half-implemented.

Thanks @JR Boulay  - unfortunately this does not appear to have helped in my case.

Hello!

I hope you're doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 24.005.20xxx Optional update, Jan 30, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and check.
For more information, see this: https://adobe.ly/40DKfTM.

Important Note:
Reverting to the classic view of Acrobat is not recommended. We encourage you to use the new Acrobat UI for the best experience. If you encounter any issues, please share the details with us to help improve the application. To learn more about the new Acrobat UI, visit: Learn About the New Acrobat.

If the Issue Persists:
If you’re using the latest version of Acrobat and still facing issues:

  • Collect the logs from the affected machine.
  • Share the problematic PDF file.
  • If possible, provide a screen recording of the issue.

This information will help us investigate further.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I am having ismilar issues. I CANNOT get Acrobat to save *any* code right now. From simply picking fields for the value is sum+ to custom code. I type it all in, hit save, it closes the dialog and nothing is saved. VERY frustrating.

This has been an issue for me for years, it seems (at least for me) to happen when you have opened properties and calculate tab of one field and then switch to another field while it is still opened.

So to avoid it I close properties window before selecting another field, it has been working fine for me that way.
