Question

Know pdf open password, want to remove it

Hello all,

My bank sends me monthly pdf statements that require password to open. Frankly I am quite sick of putting password everytime I open the pdf so I would like to remove the open password for all monthly statement pdfs. I have acrobat 9 and I tried to play around with it but could not figure out a way to get rid of this Open pdf password.

I was wondering if anyone knows a trick using which I can get rid of this password. I asked bank to send me unsecure pdf and they refused. Plus I can not print this pdf to another pdf due to protection, so any trick would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I feel your frustration.  It is THE REASON I closed my Merrill account.  Old, staunchy way of thinking and every tax season, their PDFs are impossible to coallate with other docs into a single Tax Record PDF file.  No one else does this and despite my pleas to Merrill mgmt, to this day, they still employ the dumb practice.

Unless you know the PDF's permissions password, different from the open password, you can not change the security settings.

Since bank statements can be used by 3rd parties for other purposes, the bank probably does not want to allow you any chance to modify the PDF. I am surprised they are not using a digital certificate to allow verification of a non-changed PDF.

Go to File - Document Properties - Security tab - change Security Method to

    No Security.
